We hear the word “ethical” everywhere. It has become a catch‑all term, something we use to reassure ourselves, a word that ends up meaning nothing at all. For me, ethics isn’t a marketing argument. It’s a posture, a way of creating, thinking, and consuming. Above all, it’s the desire to transform our industry from the inside out. The future of fashion isn’t about what we wear, but how we create it.
If we want real change, we have to start by changing the way we do things. At Louve, our mission has never been to produce more, but to produce differently, by giving new life to what already exists. In fact, what led me to acquire Rien ne se perd, tout se crée was my dream of building a circular economy that brings together our strengths, our teams, and our visions, while balancing profitability, pride, and social impact.
Louve’s place in the market
Louve isn’t trying to fill a commercial need - it’s filling a gap in meaning. Our collections are artistic projects created in limited series, nearly half of which are made through upcycling. To be honest, this model isn’t profitable. You don’t make money crafting pieces that are this meticulous, this complex, this intentional, especially when you’re trying to keep prices accessible because you believe responsible fashion should be available to as many people as possible.
Buying Rien ne se perd allows me to continue and amplify the concrete change I want to see in my industry. While staying true to our values of local production, creativity, and quality, Rien ne se perd brings stability to my business model, which allows me to keep prioritizing social impact over financial gain.
Creating ethically, for me, starts with working with what we already have. When an idea comes to me, I don’t go out and buy new fabric. I look at what already exists in our studio, choose the material that best aligns with my vision, and build around it. It requires sacrifices, compromises, and sometimes heartbreaking artistic decisions, but what matters most to me isn’t producing the perfect piece I had imagined. It’s creating a positive impact in my industry. At Louve, we don’t just sell clothing, we offer a way of consuming that’s smarter, softer, and more conscious.
Our upcycling collections: our secret weapon
Our upcycled pieces are entirely made in Québec using recycled materials purchased locally, and that’s something we’re incredibly proud of. Most importantly, our pieces don’t look like upcycling, and that’s intentional. We want to offer unique, durable garments that stand the test of time, without compromising on style. Every collection becomes a limited series - a small treasure our clients can wear for years.
Over the years, our Louves have learned to trust us. They know our recycled fabrics are comfortable, durable, and aligned with Louve’s quality standards. We’ve proven ourselves to our loyal clients, and we continue to win over new Louves with these unique collections that tell a different story.
Social impact, together
I understand women… We love fashion, we love feeling beautiful, reinventing ourselves through every season of our lives, and that’s perfectly okay. But the client also has a role to play in the transition toward more responsible fashion. That role can look like supporting Québec creators who work ethically, asking about fabric composition, questioning the presence of toxic products in the production chain, and more. It’s about choosing what we put on our bodies for our health, for the local economy, and for the longevity of our fashion industry. Choosing responsible fashion is a gesture for ourselves, but also for all the women who create behind the scenes.
Beyond environmental impact, Louve carries a deeply social mission. We make community donations, I personally mentor young designers, we create meaningful jobs for women, and we cultivate a Québec‑based entrepreneurial sisterhood that means the world to me. I genuinely don’t believe in competition. I prefer to share, support, and uplift my community rather than fight against it.
My wish for the future
I dream of Louve becoming 100% zero‑waste. There! I said it. I dream of multiplying collaborations with local creators. I dream that our way of doing things inspires the industry, and that more brands join the movement. My goal is to inspire a different way of doing business in fashion. Creating meaningful jobs and inspiring clothing, with respect for nature and for people.
That’s what it means to be a social entrepreneur. That’s what women’s empowerment looks like. That’s Louve.
With all my love for you, for fashion, and for our planet,
Véronique 🐺💛
